Abstract

The research of the processes of the Arctic exploration and development from the perspective of science studies is based on the arrays of published documents (five volumes), as well as on the rethinking of other sources. The results of the discoveries made in the XVIII century were later used by all mankind. The history of the Second Kamchatka Expedition shows that the development of the Arctic requires the combined efforts of all peoples, as well as mutual understanding of statesmen and politicians; it can be either useful for humanity or self-destructive.
