The article scrutinizes the problems involved in assessing scientists’ performance by means of artificial intelligence. Historical background to artificial intelligence shows the need for humans’ expert participation in determining the quality of scientific publications. The process approach in the analysis of the place and role of artificial intelligence revealed the discrepancy between the forms and methods of conducting scientific activities in the spheres of natural sciences and the humanities.
